Firearms Permits

In NY State You need a permit before you are legally allowed to handle a pistol. Even if you keep your weapon in your home, and have no intentions of carrying, you need a residency permit, which you should have on you at all times while transporting a pistol to and from a range. Triquetra Arms will stay with you from the Pre-Licensing course through purchase and familiarization or your first firearm.

Background Checks

In the state of New York, you can't purchase a firearm without going through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). Some retail stores will not perform a NICS check unless you are purchasing a firearm from them, since handling individual sales can be both a hassle and a liability with minimal benefit to the business. If they are willing to cunduct the transaction they are quite expensive.

Pre-Licensing Pistol Permit Course

We'll guide you through the pre-licensing pistol permit process, starting with the necessary classroom time, then moving on to the application and written test. Once you have completed the course and taken the written test, we provide you with a certificate that you will take to the county. The sheriff's department will review your application and determine your eligibility for a pistol permit.

Firearm Familiarization and Safety

Learn how to maintain, store, and use your firearm safely. We offer a short firearm familiarization and safety training course that can be completed in one day. The course covers gun maintenance, including:
